School Specialist (Contract/Hourly)

Job Type: Contract/hourly, 8 hours per week only while school is in session, during school hours (8a-3p) – No hours during the summer, or during school breaks. 

Location: Albany, NY, at Hebrew Academy and Maimonides Jewish Day Schools
Pay: Hourly, $25.00-$30.00 per hour based on post-master’s experience 

Mode of Service: In-person services 

JFS is seeking a Master’s level School Specialist (MSW, MHC, LMSW, LMHC, or MHC-P) with experience providing individual counseling and support groups to school aged children. The successful candidate will provide counseling sessions and support groups in-person at Hebrew Academy and Maimonides Jewish Day Schools. 

The responsibilities and duties include intakes, assessments, outpatient mental health counseling, facilitating support groups, creating and implementing curriculum, internal and external referrals, and documentation using our electronic records system. Additional responsibilities include community workshops and related program development on appropriate topics.  

Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree in Social Work or Mental Health Counseling: MSW or MHC (Required) 
  • NY State License or provisional license: LMSW, LMHC, or MHC-P (Preferred) 
  • NY State Driver’s license in good standing and reliable transportation (Required) 
  • Experience providing psychotherapy for individuals and families, 2 years (Preferred) 

Must Provide: 

  • At least three professional references 
  • Criminal background check clearance (Required, submitted through JFS) 

Experience with the following is preferred: 

  • Developing and implementing curriculum for year-long support groups for students at school 
  • Providing individual counseling outpatient mental health sessions for children and teens 
  • Providing support, resources and psychoeducation to parents, teachers, and school staff 
  • Working with multiple therapy modalities and evidenced-based interventions 

HOURS: Contract/hourly, 4-8 hours per week only while school is in session, during school hours (8a-3p) – No hours during the summer, or during school breaks, unless providing services outside of the school but school-related.  Hours may also include evenings and weekends for such services/support.
