Barry began his service to the clients of Jewish Family Services as an MSW student ’96-97. He received his MSW degree in May 1997 and began working with homeless adults challenged by mental illness. Barry worked as a Social Worker at Albany County Nursing Home for five and a half years and helped establish a family council, followed by working with clients experiencing chronic and severe mental illness for over thirteen years. He worked with their families as well.
Barry then worked part time providing more traditional psychotherapy. Barry has been an active member of Congregation Beth Emeth, Albany, chairing the Social Action Committee for six years and then serving as President of the Brotherhood for four years.
He loves facilitating groups, believes that his sense of humor keeps him alive and has great therapeutic value. He loves hearing people’s stories. He loves Broadway. Walking and working to create a socially and economically just community.
