Volunteer Coordinator

Jewish Family Services of Northeastern New York (JFS) is seeking a full-time Community Volunteer Coordinator to support the collaborative efforts of JFS, Jewish Federation and the Albany and Schenectady JCCs volunteer-driven activities addressing vulnerabilities.
The pandemic has created new needs within the community, increased social isolation, widened literacy gaps due to online educational particularly in under-resourced school districts, exacerbated existing issues of food insecurity and food sovereignty. This has highlighted the need for more cohesive and coordinated efforts across the organizations to address these issues.
The ideal candidate will have experience working as a volunteer and with volunteer driven initiatives. Familiarity with human services organizations and Jewish community preferred, not mandatory. Opportunities to expand and increase job responsibilities. The Community Volunteer Coordinator will report to the JFS President & CEO and the Director of Essential Services.


Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with agency staff to identify volunteer roles and opportunities
  • Work with staff and volunteers to support all aspects of the volunteer cycle
  • Identify potential volunteer cohorts and develop plans to attract them to opportunities
  • Act as point person for all partner agency social action activity
  • Identify key trends in volunteerism and collaborate with appropriate team members to meet those needs while maximizing the Jewish community’s role in those trends
  • Conduct intake, orientation and training of new volunteers
  • Develop a system for training, recognizing and thanking volunteers
  • Create and maintain a database system to track volunteers and requests
  • Plan and execute special projects as necessary
  • Serve as key staff member and participate in all relevant staff meetings and activities
  • Collaborate with local and national organizations dedicated to volunteerism and community engagement to develop best practices for volunteer development and engagement.

 Qualifications:

  • Minimum of three years of relevant experience
  • Active community volunteer
  • Undergraduate degree from accredited university
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office 365
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to collaborate with JFS stakeholders: staff, volunteers, donors, partners, et al.
  • Valid New York State driver’s license with reliable, personal transportation
  • Ability to travel throughout the greater Capital Region, as needed.
  • COVID vaccination / booster

Salary range $42,000- $47,000. Competitive vacation and benefit packages include health insurance, dental, and retirement plans. Flexible, family-friendly office.
