JFS Celebrates 170 Years!

What happened in 1854?

When Franklin Pierce was the U.S. President, before the Civil War and 22 years before the telephone was invented…
JFS began serving our community.
In 1854, a group of like-minded, compassionate individuals saw a great need among newly arriving immigrants — housing, food, and support — to settle and adjust to their new life in the Albany area.
170 years later, JFS still embraces this legacy of adapting and responding to the changing needs in the community.
We are just as committed today as our founders were in 1854.
This year, we will celebrate our 170th community-wide. Throughout the year, we will tell stories of serving generations of individuals and families. And we’ll continue to honor our present-day heroes.
Join us in celebrating 170 years in our community!
