The Office of Unclaimed Funds will be coming to the NNORC! Every day New York State returns $1 million to those who file claims. Currently, more than 39 million account records remain unclaimed. The New York State Office of the Comptroller will have staff available from 1:00–2:00 p.m. and then 3:00–4:00 p.m. to assist and demonstrate how to search their website to see if you have any unclaimed funds. There will be a presentation from 2:00–3:00 p.m. that includes how the Comptroller’s office ends up with the funds and how they get distributed.

Family dynamics can make estate planning a breeze or a nightmare.  Your estate plan is your personal business, but is there a right time to share this with your children and other family members?  During this presentation, we will discuss what could and should be shared with family members, when the appropriate time to share could be and how to provide this information to family. As with any complicated matter, these decisions will vary from family to family. Let’s help you come up with a plan that best suits you!

On October 28, 2018, nearly 75 people gathered at Congregation Ohav Shalom to honor Jean Becker and David Alan Miller for their commitment to helping and enriching the lives of people in the Capital Region. Each were presented the Anschel Weiss Community Builders Award.
In the wake of the tragedy in Pittsburgh, our Annual Celebration provided the perfect venue to come together as a community to honor goodness. Several Albany dignitaries attended the event for both the celebration and to be stand in solidarity with the Jewish community. Congressman Paul Tonko, Senator Neil Breslin, Assemblymember Patrica Fahy ad form Albany Mayor Gerald Jennings were among the guests.

     We are pleased to announce the addition of Claire Greenhill to the Albany NNORC. Claire joined us last month and she will be serving NNORC residents in a supportive counseling/case management role. In the coming weeks, she will be attending upcoming NNORC programs and looks forward to meeting as many residents as possible.
     Claire and her family have lived in the Albany area since the summer of 2017. They are still getting to know the area and all that the Capital Region has to offer. If you have any recommendations of things they need to do and see, she would love to hear them! If you see Claire at an upcoming program, please say hello!

Because of the federal government shutdown, most SNAP recipients will receive their February Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits early.If you received a SNAP benefit in January and were scheduled to receive SNAP in February, your February benefits may be available on your EBT card on January 17th instead of on your scheduled February availability date.This is your entire February benefit. This is not an extra SNAP benefit for January. 


Do you want to make better use of your electronic devices? Your NNORC neighbors are getting individual training on how to: get photos from their phone to their computer; use an iPad; connect to wifi; watch a video; and more. We have volunteer mentors from the NNORC who are teaching skills and answering questions about computers and devices.
Please bring your questions and your charged tablet, phone or laptop (Apple or PC).
If you have strong computer skills and feel you would make a good computer instructor, let us know if you are interested.

Join Karen Mort from Cornell Cooperative Extension for a new cooking program – It’s Bean Great!  Learn how to cook with dry and canned beans in recipes for soups, salads, main course meals and even desserts. They are inexpensive and high in protein and fiber.  Recipes and food sampling are included.
