Renew your commitment to health and wellness in the New Year by joining us for weekly Chair Yoga via Zoom.  New to the practice?  Don’t worry! Everything we do is seated or standing with the chair for support.  There’s no need to get up and down from the floor.  A lot of modifications are suggested so that the practice will work for your unique strengths and abilities.

Join us Tuesdays, January 5, 12, 19, 26 from 11 a.m.-12 p.m.

NNORC uses Zoom for video and audio conferencing, so we can continue to offer you programs. Prefer not to use a computer or smartphone to participate? No problem! All you need is a telephone line to join in. Please call 518-514-2023 or email us at NNORC@jfsneny.org to sign up so that we can give you the correct access link or phone number for you to participate. You can also contact us for a one-on-one Zoom tutorial with a staff member.

Let’s “Go Green” and learn how to make reusable storage sheets. Made with cotton fabric and natural beeswax, these sheets can be molded to any shape using the natural warmth of your hands. Once used, simply wash the storage sheet with dish detergent, rinse, reshape and reuse. Enjoy making  and using these pretty and environmentally friendly alternatives to plastic wrap or foil.

Our presenter is Tanette Nguyen-McCarty. She hasn’t slowed down in her retirement. She loves yoga and tai-chi, jewelry making, and helping her community with a variety of volunteer services.

This group will be taught by Diana Bangert-Drowns, a NNORC resident and artist. Diana has enjoyed numerous hobbies throughout her life, including sewing, gardening, music and visual arts.

Chi Gong is a 5,000-year-old practice that can empower us to become active participants in our own physical, mental and emotional healing.  Through gentle movements, meditation, visualization, energy and breath work, this six-week class can help relieve aches and pains; provide gentle, quiet grounding and inner peace for those with depression, anxiety or panic attacks; and bring relief, calm and a sense of well-being

No previous experience or special props are needed. All physical abilities and limitations are welcome.  The practice can be done seated or with a chair for support. Wear clothing that allows for comfortable movement. The series is led by Oded Ben-Ami, a certified Chi Gong teacher.

Have you considered taking public transportation in Albany? Are you nervous about riding the bus and want some guidance? Do you want to learn how to read a bus schedule? Join NNORC for a special program with CDTA to learn about their Travel Training program, a service for residents who want to learn how to travel using CDTA’s public transit route network. Spring is the perfect opportunity to learn to ride the CDTA and get out this summer.

CDTA offers half fare rates to citizens age 65 and over and for disabled individuals to use their fixed route bus service. Oni Cedeno, the CDTA Travel Trainer, will talk about CDTA’s Navigator program and take photos for your own Navigator ID card. (There is no charge for the Navigator ID.)

Customers who qualify for half fare will need a Navigator half fare photo ID card to pay reduced rates on the bus. This is the perfect opportunity to learn about CDTA and get your card.
