Family relationships are always challenging, and they evolve over time. This month’s Food and Flicks features The Judge, starring Robert Downey Jr. and Oscar nominee for best supporting actor, Robert Duvall, explores the relationship of a father and son—their estrangement and reconnection. Hank Palmer (Downey) is a big city lawyer who returns home when his father (Duvall), a local judge, is accused of murder. Hank’s help is not always welcomed by his dad. In the course of the investigation and trial, Hank reconnects on a profound level with his family. This is a superbly acted story that resonates with many of us.
Hope you can join us!

Maybe you have a story for your family or something about your life that won’t be remembered unless it’s in writing.
Writer and storyteller Donna Miller would like to take you on a guided journey through your important memories and life experiences. With some writing skills development and some conversation and laughter, (and a little coffee and snacks!) you can write that story that has always been on your mind. Bring your imaginations and your sense of humor!
Donna Miller’s new memoir Mad Random: Claiming Life Out of Chaos, was just published. The book details part of her life experience raising a son who experienced serious emotional disabilities. She has been published in international fashion and travel magazines, and featured in newspapers and on public radio.

Stew for One or Two
Cooking for one or two can be difficult. Quantities of food often are too big, and items spoil before they are consumed. Plus, many recipes are for at least four servings, which can create a problem preserving leftovers. All of this can be a real challenge when you are living alone or with one other  person.
NNORC is partnering with Cornell Cooperative Extension to offer a hands-on cooking workshop that addresses these concerns. Learn some easy shopping and preparation tips for putting together affordable, enjoyable meals for one or two people. This program includes cooking and sampling!
DATE: Tuesday, March 17, 2015
TIME: 2:00 – 3:30 p.m.
PLACE: First Congregational Church 405 Quail Street, Albany.
FEE: The cost is $4.00 per person.

Are you planning to make some positive life changes in 2015?  Maybe your goal is to lose a few pounds, exercise more, or deal more effectively with stress.
Unfortunately, all too often, even the best of intentions never get put into practice. The Nike ads might tell us to “JUST DO IT!” – but somehow it’s not that easy.
No matter what it is you’d like to do, “Change for Good” will help you reach your goal. In this workshop we will discuss the steps needed to move towards any change, identify some of the obstacles we might meet along the way, and develop strategies needed to move ahead.
Join us and gain some useful tools for making your life better.
